The Benefits of Pre-Engineered Steel for New Construction

The joy of a building owner is seeing a building stand majestically, with unbeatable durability yet still offer the greatest aesthetic appeal. With the advent of engineering technology, most commercial general contractor San Francisco companies have introduced the idea of pre-engineering their client’s steel before delivery for construction.

The use of pre-engineered steel for construction isn’t only being used for building renovation but new construction projects are increasingly embracing the idea as well. Are you planning or already undertaking a new construction project? You need to consider using pre-engineered steel.

What’s pre-engineered steel?

A pre-engineered steel building is nothing but a pre-fabricated building constructed with a structural metal framing system to fit a specific construction project’s requirements. Each pre-determined component is fabricated from the factory first under certain conducive factory conditions.

After pre-cutting, pre-punching, and pre-fabricating the pieces as per the client’s requirements they are then delivered to the construction site. Here, the general contractor company in charge of construction management carries out assembling as required.  Sounds like a customized construction plan? That’s correct. The resulting project perfectly suits all your requirements.

Why you should consider pre-engineered steel building during your next project

If you aren’t considering pre-engineered steel for your building renovations or new constructions in San Francisco, you should. And here’s why?

  • Versatility and uniqueness

When you are seeking to come up with a unique and versatile building, simply use pre-engineered steel from commercial general contractors. Engineers and architects usually pick standardized components like wall systems, roof systems, and framing systems among others to build your structure. With the very many colors, shapes, and textures to choose from, how the components fit together enables the designers to uniquely construct buildings that are true to their own preferences.

  • Strength, durability, and low maintenance cost

Every building owner seeks not only strength for their buildings but to cut maintenance costs as well. With pre-engineered steel, it shouldn’t be a surprise because steel is known to be tough and strong. Structures built of steel can withstand elements of weather, seismic activities, and fire more than those built from conventional materials.

Speaking of earthquakes, these structures come with seismic retrofits to enable them to stand earth-shaking of a certain magnitude. They simply stand the test of time when it comes to durability. Controlling pests such as termites and molds won’t be an issue either, and that translates to lower costs of maintenance. What more can a building owner ask for?

  • Reduce construction time

Everyone wants their construction projects to be complete like yesterday so they can start generating revenue quickly. Unfortunately, with normal construction projects such as those used by some industrial general contractors, you’ll have to wait much longer. Not with pre-engineered steel constructions. This is because the structures are constructed using standardized components and sections. The components are manufactured to serve a very wide range of architectural designs and works, which are then crafted before assembling on-site. Since all the parts are engineered from the factory before use on-site, a lot of human errors and costs are eliminated and thus even the total time of construction is also reduced.

  • Easy expansibility

Many are times when businesses expand to outgrow the current facility and hence need to expand. With pre-engineered construction, carrying out such tenant improvements won’t be hectic at all. The structures allow easy expansion of an existing facility due to the standardized design, the assembling process becomes much quicker hence simplifying the entire process.

  • Simplified construction work

A building constructed with pre-engineered steel actually has a more simplified construction process than the conventional ones. This is because once the crafting of the metal building is complete, a quick assembling process allows your commercial general contractors to erect the entire building on site. Since the pieces and components are delivered on-site, there won’t be any measuring, cutting, or welding work. The construction team can therefore go straight into bolting the structure together. This makes it very possible to construct the building from the design stage to the complete erection stage. And this takes much lower time than what is needed by conventional structures.

  • Great aesthetic appeal

A pre-engineered steel building is not only strong and durable but has all the traits of an attractive building. Sloping roofs and metallic walls are not only appealing but they are self-cleaning too. The structures are painted with specialty coating to help them resist dirt and retain their attractive colors. These structures will stand the test of time, display a uniquely attractive design and save you more money over the course of the lifespan of the building.

And those are just a few of the endless benefits of buildings constructed with pre-engineered buildings. Industrial construction companies today are migrating from the traditional ways of delivering construction materials to the approach of pre-engineered steel construction. It’s high time you consider making a change too!

Case Study: Dakota Winery Facility

Dakota Winery is a new pre-engineered steel construction project being undertaken by XYZ industrial contractors. It is located right in the heart of the Napa Valley.  According to the project owners, they need the winery to have a fermentation room, lab, barrel storage rooms, office, tasting room, and washrooms. XYZ has recently finished the construction of the pre-engineered walls and roofing system for the fermentation room.

Since the winery is going to be dealing with plenty of steam and moist environments, the idea of using specialty coating came in handy. XYZ general contractors explain that they are in the process of applying specialty coating for the wall structure which will be transported to the site ready for installation.

The project owner has estimated that they would want at least the fermentation room and storage room complete by June this year. At the pace XYZ industrial contractors are moving at, all seems okay and they have projected completion of the two structures even before mid-year. They have reported that since the pre-engineered steel structures are built with standardized sections and components, their work is much more simplified.

  • That's interesting that the steel buildings could be built in a factory setting and then moved to a place where the pieces are connected to form the building. I could see how that would go a lot faster than building a custom building. I am thinking about getting a warehouse for my business, so that sounds like a good way to save some money on it and still get a good building.

  • It's really amazing that the builders can pack all the required materials and bring them to the building site. My partner and I are trying to get a new workshop on our property this year. I think that these metal buildings would be perfect because they are cheaper and very durable.
